Due to a stroke Barbara was left speech impaired and thereby unable to communicate with others and secure employment for over fifteen years. Barbara came to STAR and received a speech device, training, and job placement assistance. Utilizing her DynaMyte communication device, Barbara secured employment as a product demonstrator where she works a part-time job interacting with the public. This is perfect for Barbara as she is such a people person. Her employer says, “I couldn't have asked for a better employee!”

The Employment Services Staff assist clients in setting up interviews, ensuring that applications are filled out completely and accurately, and providing as much assistance as the individual desires or requires in the process of applying for and obtaining employment.

Job Coaching Services are available for those individuals who need assistance in mastering the task necessary to perform well in newly gained employment. The Employment Services Staff provides this service as a one-on-one trainer for tasks related to the individual's job.

Follow-up with employers and participants in an effort to assess progress will be accomplished by phone, and by on-site visits, by the Job Placement Staff to the workplace.

Participants will be assisted by our Placement Staff with the type of employment opportunities that reflect their desires coupled with their aptitude and interest as assessed by an evaluation process and life skills screening.

Department of Rehabilitaiton Services (DRS) clients may attend job readiness classes, which will focus on how to complete applications, best practicies for the interview, job networking skills, resume preparation and interpersonal skills for the workplace. Teamwork is critical for successful employment.
